Sponsored Initiatives and Programs

The National Fund is proud to support new and innovative educational initiatives that engage people of all ages in discovering the joy of plants and the importance they play in our everyday lives.

The Fund also partners with the United States Botanic Garden to offer regular programs for growth and personal enrichment to D.C. area residents and national and international visitors. Each year we help coordinate over 200 public programs at the USBG that offer instruction in a wide range of indoor and outdoor plant science topics.

Hands On Plant Science (HOPS)

The HOPS program partners local teachers, high school students and environmental organizations to introduce DC’s youth to the fascinating world of hands-on plant and environmental sciences.

National Garden Internship

This 10-week summer internship works with the HOPS program to bring vital, hands on learning opportunities to local youth. The National Garden Intern also helps bring the National Garden to life for USBG visitors, gaining valuable skills in the field of public horticulture in the process.

*Candidate must be at least a rising college senior to apply for this internship

D.C. Teacher's Night

An evening designed to provide teachers with access to hands-on activities, lesson plans and resources that can be used to support environmental science in the classroom.

Landscape for Life (LFL)

With over 117 participating organizations, 338 trainers in 38 states and 3 countries, the Landscape for Life Program is providing the resources needed to help homeowners and communities create healthy, productive landscapes.

Live It Learn It (LILI)

This partnership proves hundreds of young Title I students with the opportunity to further classroom learning by visiting places of scientific and historical interest in the Capital Region.

Cell Phone Tour

This project allows visitors to use their cell phones to listen to audio recordings highlighting important features throughout the National Garden. This interpretive service helps bring the National Garden to life, while providing education on the importance of sustainability and native plants.
